Collingwood Hospital Redevelopment Approved

The Ontario budget contained good news for our local hospital.

The Ontario budget contained good news for our local hospital.

The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital has been given the green light to go ahead with the redevelopment.

The hospital says in a new release that it still has to follow the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's five stage capital planning process which involves reviews and future approvals from the Ministry and the government.

It is still a long process and a new build is still about eight years away according to hospital officials.

The Alliston hospital is also getting the go ahead and Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson, who has been pushing for support for the two hospitals, has released a statement.

Wilson says the budget announcement means that the hospitals will each have access to the millions of new dollars needed to plan these redevelopments. He adds that local fundraising can now formally begin.

Speaking of fundraising, the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation will be preparing to launch its biggest campaign ever in order to raise the 80 million dollar local share of the redevelopment project.
