County pushing forward will plans for trail on former railway

Midhurst | by Ian MacLennan
Multi-use trail between Stayner and Angus could cost $5.5 million.

Simcoe County Council has approved funding in future budgets for the conversion of the Barrie Collingwood Railway into a multi-use trail between Stayner and Angus.

A preliminary design report recommends the trail be built on the existing rail bed once the track is ripped up.

The Collingwood to Stayner portion of the railway has been converted into a multi-use recreational trail, running parallel to the track.

A preliminary design report estimates various studies required and public consultation will cost around $400,000,  with construction of the trail estimated at $5.5 million.

Timeline for completion has not been determined.

The Collingwood to Utopia portion of the railway was purchased by the County from the Town of Collingwood in 2017.
