Beginning in spring 2020, the heart program at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie will be 24/7.
That means paramedics will begin transporting heart attack patients from across North Simcoe Muskoka directly to RVH for treatment.
Next month, RVH will also begin implanting new and replacement pacemakers.
State-of-the-art equipment for the second cardiac intervention suite is currently being installed to allow for around-the-clock care.
The heart program at RVH opened in 2018 in partnership with Southlake Regional Health Centre, with a ramp up in services, starting with diagnostic angiograms then more advanced procedures such as a angioplasty.
