Clearview Council To Fill Vacant Seat

Clearview Township council is set to declare a seat vacancy.

Clearview Township council is set to declare a seat vacancy.

The recommendation on the agenda for Monday's meeting is for council to declare the seat for Ward 1 Councillor vacant and to fill the vacancy by appointment within the next 60 days.

On November 30, 2019, the township was advised of the sudden passing of Councillor Ed Christie.

The Municipal Act states that when there is a death on council, the seat must be declared vacant within the next two council meetings.

Once that is done, council has 60 days to either appoint someone to fill the spot or pass a by-law for a by-election.

The staff recommendation is for appointment.

Council now has to decide if that will be by nomination by a member of council or by open call for applications.
