Power Outages from High Winds

Regional | by Mariane McLeod
pole problem in Stayner

A large power outage in our area this afternoon. Wasaga Beach - Wasaga Distribution says power is out to parts of of Wasaga after a hydro pole caught on fire in Stayner earlier this morning.

Most of Stayner is also without power.  It's expected it will take as much as six hours to get the lights and heat back on.  The lights are out at St. Noel School this afternoon, but the school reports, the kids are all safe. There was also no power at noon at Stayner Collegiate.

Meantime, power has been restored in Collingwood this morning after the strong winds blew several trees onto power lines in the west end of town.

Another outage earlier from blue mountain through Thornbury over to Meaford and on to Owen Sound has also been fixed, but not soon enough to save the school day. Meaford's schools were closed for the day.
