Short January Thaw

Regional | by Catherine Thompson
temperatures will plummet later today

This mild spell will be short lived.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement saying a very strong cold front will cross the region from northwest to southeast Friday.

Rain will quickly change to snow with a risk of brief freezing rain. The weather agency says we can expect just a few centimetres of snow.

Drivers are being cautioned that water on the roads from today's melt will freeze up making roads and sidewalks slippery.

Meanwhile, more warnings about unstable ice in this thaw. Ramara Fire was called to Lake Simcoe at Southview Cove on Thursday afternoon to help snowmobilers who were stuck in slush.  OPP again remind you to think twice before heading onto the ice.
