Hospital Precautions as Flu Peaks

Collingwood | by Mariane McLeod
visitor restrictions in place

You're being asked to wash your hands and not bring children to visit at the hospital in Collingwood as the flu season hits its peak.

Earlier this week, the Health Unit declared influenza 'widespread' in the area. The hospital now says it's putting precautionary measures in place to prevent an outbreak at the facility.

Hospital staff will wear masks and visitors will be asked to wear one, too. Visitors are still allowed, but have been restricted to one per patient at any one time, and children under 12 are being asked to stay away.

You're also being asked to be patient if you need help in the Emergency Department. The flu means an increase in the number of people going to the hospital, and longer waits for care.
