Jayne Chalmers Pulls Ahead at Investors Group Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship
Cambridge, ON (GOLF ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO) – Jayne Chalmers of Mount Hope carded a one-over par 72 on Wednesday to take the lead at the Investors Group Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur championship hosted by Galt Country Club in Cambridge.
Chalmers, a member at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, added today’s score to her opening round 76 for an overall total of 148 (+6), enough for a five stroke lead over the field. She will now try to retain her lead through Thursday’s final 18 holes, with the 2012 champion set to be crowned at the conclusion of play tomorrow.
Two time Ontario Women’s Match Play champion (2005, 2006) Kristy McLaughlin of Wasaga Beach slipped into second place after carding a seven-over 78 on Wednesday. The Batteaux Creek Golf Club member sits in runner up position with a two-day total of 153, +11.
Chalmers’ Hamilton clubmate Jennifer Lochhead of Ancaster is six strokes back in third place at twelve over par with a total score of 154 (78-76) while defending champion Patricia Hogeboom of Kingston is tied for fourth place at +13 alongside Etobicoke’s Marion Reid.
Final round action gets under way at 7:30 am tomorrow with the group of Chalmers, McLaughlin and Lochhead set to tee off at 10:20 am.
The Investors Group Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur championship is contested annually and is open to female golfers age 25 and over. First contested in 1989, the championship trophy is named after Canadian and Ontario Golf Hall of Fame member Mary Ann Hayward, who has captured the title fourteen times.
