Many high schools in our region find themselves in the middle of the pack when it comes to the Fraser Institute’s latest Report Card on Ontario’s Secondary Schools.
The B-C based right wing organization ranked 740 public, catholic and private high schools across the province, based on academic data from the results of province-wide tests in literacy and math.
The top ranked in school in Midwestern Ontario is Stratford Central, which ranked 48th with a rating of 8.2 out of 10.
Peninsula Shores in Wiarton is the top high school in Grey and Bruce Counties at 158th with a rating of 7.3.
Nouvelle Alliance in Barrie is the highest ranked high school in Simcoe County at 158th with a rating of 7.3, followed by Jean Vanier in Collingwood with a 7.2 rating at 183rd.
Listowel District Secondary, St. Anne’s in Clinton and St. Michael’s in Stratford all finished tied for 208th with a rating of 7.1 out of 10.
The highest ranked high school in Orillia is Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School at 273rd at rating of 6.7, tied with Le Caron in Penetanguishene.
Saugeen District Secondary in Port Elgin, Collingwood Collegiate Institute and Park Street Collegiate Institute in Orillia all had a rating of 6.5 out of 10 and tied for 324th.
The highest ranked high school in Owen Sound is West Hill at 343rd with a rating of 6.4. St. Mary’s high school had a rating of 5.6 and finished 466th while OSCVI finished 616th with a 4.4 rating.
Also of note, Centre Dufferin in Shelburne finished 343rd with a rating of 6.4 and South Huron in Exeter is 355th at 6.3.
Kincardine District and Sacred Heart in Walkerton tied for 373rd with a 6.2 rating out of 10.
Chesley District High School and Georgian Bay Secondary in Meaford tied for 390th with a 6.1 rating.
John Diefenbaker Secondary in Hanover and Wellington Heights in Mount Forest tied for 421st with a 5.9 rating.
Goderich District Collegiate finished 440th at 5.8, tied with Mitchell District High and Elmvale District High School.
Bruce Peninsula District in Lion’s Head finished 451st at 5.7 while Stratford Northwestern had a 5.6 rating at 466th.
Walkerton District and Central Huron in Clinton tied for 478th with a rating of 5.5 out of 10.
Orillia District Secondary is 497th with a rating of 5.4.
F.E Madill in Wingham finished 583rd with a rating of 4.8.
Penetanguishene Secondary, St. Theresa’s in Midland and Midland Secondary School all scored a 4.7 rating and finished 590th in Ontario.
Grey Highlands in Flesherton is 686th with a 3.4 rating and Stayner Collegiate finished 702nd at 2.9 out of 10.
The top ranked school in Ontario was St. Michael’s choir in Toronto with a rating of 9.9 out of 10.
