The Grey County OPP have arrested the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ Restored — a cult-like group near Chatsworth — who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
Officers say 55-year old Frederick King was arrested late Friday in Hamilton after investigators were alerted that he was likely at a hotel in the city.
Fred King disappeared after members of the Church of Jesus Christ Restored in Chatsworth went to police in 2012 with allegations of physical and sexual assault.
The suspect has been charged with 10 counts of assault and multiple counts of assault with a weapon, uttering death threats, assault causing bodily harm and sexual assault. King also faces one count each of sexual exploitation and sexual interference. He’s due in court on Monday to face the allegations.
In her book, “Property: The True Story of a Polygamous Church Wife” released in 2013, Carol Christie described several acts of assault she suffered before escaping.
She was a church member for several decades, and was one of several wives of the “Prophet” before finally breaking free a few years ago.
As a result of her allegations, the OPP launched a 16 month probe into the church.
Last Monday, police announced charges had been filed against two brothers.
59-year old Judson William King of Oakville faces six charges.
He appears in Owen Sound court on May 15th.
