One of two Wasaga Beach men killed in a double slaying in Collingwood made headlines in 1993 when he walked away from a minimum security prison.
Toronto Star reports 52 year old Dean Copkov was one of four men that escaped from the Kingston-area prison where he was doing time for shooting a man in the leg in Toronto.
He later turned himself into police, pulling up in a stretch limo.
Copkov and 42 year old Donovan Bass were found dead at a Raglan Street residence in the wee hours of January 22.
Police say a third person that accompanied the victims to the housing complex is still at large.
The Star says Copkov was also associated with a mob boss who was shot dead while sitting at a cafe patio in Toronto in 2012.
57 year old Cameron Gardiner of Collingwood is facing two counts of second degree murder in connection with the deaths of Copkov and Bass.
