The Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has concluded there’s no basis to lay criminal charges in connection with the police shooting of a Penetanguishene man.
On June 11th OPP used an anti-riot Enfield weapon (ARWEN) to shoot a 28-year-old man who’d barricaded himself in a home. Police had been trying to take him into custody during a distress call.
Ultimately, the man was taken to hospital with a fractured arm after being hit by several ARWEN rounds.
While the SIU accepts the injuries may have been the result of the rounds or as a result of the man’s falling down some stairs, SIU Director Joseph Martino says he’s satisfied it’s not attributable to any unlawful conduct on the part of the involved officers.
