Wasaga Beach Mayor Brian Smith issued a statement today regarding the vision for the beach and to address concerns about the province’s proposal to return less than 60 hectares of parkland to the town.
Smith pointed our that in the 70’s, to create the provincial park, hundreds of homes, family cottages and small businesses were bulldozed. While the mass expropriation gave the public access to the shoreline, it eroded the community’s stability.
Therefore, Smith says, returning the land to the municipality provides the ability to restore what was lost.
He added no sensitive habitat will be threatened, stating the municipality is are already engaging with conservation organizations such as Birds Canada, and welcome further collaboration.
