Southern Georgian Bay OPP is investigating an incident where one person was pronounced deceased.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate in the case.
Shortly before 1 o’clock Saturday morning, police responded to a parking lot on Highway 12 in Tay Township.
One person was taken to hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
According to the SIU, police had spent hours negotiating with the 55-year-old man before he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Highway 12 was closed between Reeves Road and Rumney Road during the investigation and reopened at around 10 o’clock yesterday evening.
Police say there is no threat to public safety, and that local residents should expect to see an increased police presence in the area.
More information is expected once it becomes available.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
