The OPP has arrested and charged four suspects in relation to a home invasion in the Town of Wasaga Beach.
On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at approximately 3:21a.m., the Huronia West Crime Unit commenced an investigation into a reported home invasion. At approximately 3:00a.m., the victim was woken up by the four suspects outside the victim’s residence before the break and enter. The suspects proceeded to break the victim’s belonging and used weapons to utter dangerous threats. The four suspects fled before police arrived, and paramedics attended to treat the victim at the scene for minor injuries.
Several surveillance videos obtained by investigators identified a suspect and suspect address resulting in physical surveillance. There was no concern for public safety since there were relations between the victim and the suspects.
On December 20, 2023, with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the Huronia West, Southern Georgian Bay, and Collingwood Detachments, the Huronia West Crime Unit executed two search warrants at two locations in Wasaga Beach and Phelpston. All four suspects were located during the execution of the warrants and taken into custody without incident or injury.
As a result of the warrants, the following was seized:
- Silver replica handgun (revolver)
- Black replica handgun (revolver)
- Metal bat
The four suspects are from Phelpston and Wasaga Beach.
All four have been charged will the following:
- Forcible confinement
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon x2
- Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
- Mischief Under $5,000
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x2
- Firearm – use while committing offence
- Pointing a Firearm
- Disguise with intent
The four suspects remain in custody and are being held pending a show cause hearing.
